Tool Boxes
When asked to think of tool boxes, the classic, metal cantilever tool box is what most people imagine. This style of tool carrying box is more commonly found in garages and engineering workshops. The idea of the cantilever design is to allow different tools to be compartmentalised but make them visible as the box is opened to its full extent, thus maximising storage space yet making tool selection easy.
Tool boxes made from tough plastics are more common in the construction industry, as they can be big without being heavy and different compartments within the box are easy to manufacture with modern moulding processes. The rounded edges of plastic are also less likely to damage seat material, wooden floors and other surfaces prone to marking.
Rear wheels and extendable pull handles are extremely popular as they allow the tool box to be moved around the workshop or site with ease; the empty toolbox maybe manufactured to be lightweight but when filled with tools they can become immovable objects so any design which allows easy transport is useful.
Other designs incorporate removable tote trays which are very useful if only a small selection of tools are required for a job, leaving the rest of the tools in the remaining part of the tool box. Heavy duty, flat topped tool boxes can often be used as a step which is incredibly handy for small jobs which need the tradesmen to be able to reach higher without resorting to steps. Some tool boxes may also have clear plastic compartment boxes situated on the lid which are ideal for small fixings and fittings such as cable clips, screws, cover caps, washers and even power tool accessories such as screwdriver bits.
