Hard Hats & Head Protection
One of the most common and easily recognisable pieces of PPE (personal protection equipment) is a Hard Hat, sometimes referred to as a site helmet. The Hard Hat is a mandatory piece of PPE on virtually every construction site and is also becoming commonplace in environments such as warehouses and distribution centres.
Head injuries can occur from falls, items and debris falling from height and situations where an individual bangs their head when walking under scaffolds, racking and other low-level hazards. Even minor trauma to the head can result in life-changing conditions and it is advisable that anyone working in an environment that may have the potential for any type of head injury takes precautionary measures by wearing a Hard Hat. Most hard hats are made out of an impact-resistant ABS plastic with different styles and colours available, indeed some companies have their own displayed on the helmet.
Some safety helmets have design features that are particularly suited to different applications – Short peak helmets allow wearers to look up at taller buildings or installations without tilting the head back so far, comfort helmets have softer linings and straps for all-day use and certain helmets have chin straps to secure the Hard Hat which is a requirement for wearers who work at height thus preventing the helmet falling off the wearer and injuring someone down below.
There are other design features which can be considered such as Ear Defender mounting points and inbuilt safety visors. As regulations and requirements for individual sites or premises may vary it is important to check that your Hard Hat and other personal protective equipment meets the specification. Products such as Bump Caps may have a hard shell and will protect the wearer from minor cuts and bumps but they should not be confused with a Hard Hat or Safety Helmet.
Order your Hart Hat & Site Helmets before 5pm and it will be despatched that day ready for you to use the next working day. Or, click and collect from your local depot in Derby, Nottingham, Chesterfield, Mansfield or Burton.
