Line Laser Levels
Spirit or bubble levels have been used by astronomers and surveyors since the 17th century, eventually becoming a tool used by carpenters some 200 years later. There is no doubt that every tradesperson will own a sprit level of some description, be it for levelling brickwork, a kitchen worktop or radiator and numerous other tasks. These invaluable tools are essential when marking out vertical and horizontal planes but become limited over longer distances, simply because of the levels’ length.
More recently, professionals have turned to using line laser levels which project a beam onto surfaces requiring marking out. This ensures that fixtures, fittings and services are positioned perfectly, which may be essential for functional purposes or just be pleasing to the eye. Typical examples would be an electrician installing cable trunking, a kitchen fitter lining up wall cabinets or a partitions contractor installing a suspended ceiling.
Line laser levels are capable of working at distances which would be impossible for a standard spirit level. Accuracy is maintained as the beam originates from a single, fixed reference point and lines are thin and clearly visible. What’s more, all this can be done by a single person. Laser technology is constantly improving and line lasers are becoming more compact and powerful with even more features; such as plumb dots and lines across 3 planes permitting 360 degree working. Line lasers are available with green or red beams; green being the most visible for internal use.
Protrade offer a comprehensive range of laser line levels from Imex, Leica and Milwaukee with a range of laser accessories including tripods, receivers and target plates.
