Cordless Drill/Drivers

When cordless machines first featured a range of torque settings, it was believed that the vibrating nature of the impact mechanism affected the accuracy of the torque function and therefore it was reserved for drill drivers only. Of course, the other issue of having an impact function present on a screwdriving, wood and drilling machine is if you forget to turn the impacting off, it inevitably causes damage to the drill bit and work piece, especially so when working in metal.

In most cases, drill drivers are also lighter and more compact than combi drills, which can reduce operator fatigue when used in production environments. With the introduction of multi purpose, carbide drill bits, it is now possible to successfully make holes in masonry without an impact mechanism, as these uniquely ground TCT bits cut the masonry rather than chisel it; in many cases they drill faster than an equivalent combi drill and with much less noise.
