Chop Saws
Chopsaws are used exclusively for cutting metal components such as threaded rod, strut channel, angle iron and steel pipes. The original chopsaw, often referred to as a bacon slicer is still sold today and uses a large abrasive disc to grind its way through the material.
Due to the way the abrasive cuts through the metal, abrasive chopsaws create sparks and grinding dust during the cutting process, they are also prone to leaving sharp burrs around the cut edges which must be removed using a file once the cut has been made to prevent injury when handling. Abrasive chopsaws also suffer from reduced cutting capacities as the abrasive disc wears. TCT chopsaws use a Tungsten Carbide Tipped blade which is specifically designed to cut steel. The speed of cut is improved dramatically and provided the blade remains sharp, there are no sparks, burrs and certainly no dust. The cutting capacity of the machine is always maintained as although the blade will eventually become blunt, the dimensions never change. TCT chopsaws are fast becoming the tool of choice for electrical contractors, mechanical engineers and engineering contractors looking for a portable and fast metal cutting solution. Protrade stock 14″ abrasive and TCT chopsaws from brands Alfra and Metabo. 12″ TCT chopsaws are available to order but Protrade believe the extra cut capacity is beneficial, especially when cutting large diameter steel pipe work.
