Palm Sanders

Palm sanders are smaller versions of orbital sanders using small orbits to perform their sanding action. As a palm sander, they are designed to be used ‘in the palm’ and therefore only require one hand in use making them lightweight and comfortable; something to consider if you are working overhead or sanding vertical areas. A palm sander’s limited size also allows for better access in small spaces such as door panels and some corners although it should be noted that detail sanders that work by oscillation are more effective when a very tight space needs abrading using a sanding machine. The height of a palm sander should be considered if you regularly have to sand areas featuring a recess, as clearance for the hand may be required to perform the task. Palm sanders featuring variable speed can also be useful if you ever need to sand surfaces that are susceptible to damage or discolouration by heat. Slowing down the speed of the sanding action, can, for example, prevent paint from becoming sticky and even blistering which would be undesirable if you were preparing the surface for further painting.
