Submersible Pumps
Submersible pumps are used for pumping out large volumes of water from flooded basements, ponds, irrigation ditches and trenches. Selecting your submersible pump depends on how much water you need to pump out; some pumps can work with as little water as found in a large puddle whereas other pumps can discharge water from a well. You must also consider the type of water that needs pumping out; will it be contaminated with gravel and other solids or contain any corrosive substances from chemicals to highly salinated water? Head height is often referred to and this is the maximum vertical height from the water source that the pump can discharge from.
Submersible pumps should always have a rope or chain attached to the carry handle to avoid the electric cable being used to pull the pump back out from the area to be drained. When using an electric submersible pump, Protrade always recommend that a RCD circuit breaker is used.
