Circular Saw Blades
Most power tools that use a circular sawblade benefit from using a TCT sawblade. Tungsten carbide is a very heat-resistant tip material that offers long service life and good cut quality. As there are so many different materials available for contractors, tradesmen, and tradeswomen to use in construction there are lots of circular saw blades to choose from which enable all of these materials to be cut.
Available in sizes from 120mm to 355mm, Protrade will have the right blade for your job. The main considerations when choosing a circular saw blade are the material to be cut, and the machine it is going to be used on – which will typically decide the diameter and bore size of the blade and the quality of the finish required. Different materials often mean that the shape of the tooth on the blade and the angle the teeth present themselves to the substrate are different.

It’s common for a cross cut mitre saw to use a negative rake saw blade as this tooth configuration helps to press the material against the base of the saw and reduces the likelihood of the workpiece lifting. When cutting aluminium and other non-ferrous metals a triple chip tooth configuration is very popular, making light work of cutting these soft metals.
Sawblades featuring an alternate bevel help to achieve straighter cuts and are very popular for wood and board materials. The introduction of cordless saws which require a circular saw blade can also influence the type of blade required. Cordless saws have a limited energy supply in the form of a battery and thus a blade which cuts through the material with the least possible resistance extends the life of the battery and allows more cuts per charge; this is why many circular saw blades designed for use with cordless saws have a thin cutting width which is technically referred to as the kerf – the width of the tooth.
In most applications, fewer teeth offer a faster cut but with a less clean finish whereas more teeth cut slower and give a cleaner and finer finish. It’s also worth checking if there are any extra holes or slots surrounding the bore which are for locating pins to hold the blade in place – often found on larger diameter blades. With this basic information, Protrade will be able to recommend a blade for your application allowing you to cut the material accurately and safely.
