Stabila
For over 130 years the Stabila company has been manufacturing and inventing measuring tools. In 1865 the Ullrich family began to manufacture folding rules. It was 21 years later that brothers Anton and Franz received a patent for a spring loaded joint which was to be incorprated into the latest folding rules the company was producing – this design has remained virtually identical to this day.
Stabila, is arguably the worlds best known professional spirit level. Although this measuring device was thought to have first been adopted by carpenters in the mid 19th century, it is the acrylic glass vial patented by Stabila in 1952 which most of us will be familiar with. This reliable and accurate invention allowed Stabila to become the first German manufacturer of light weight metal spirit levels, providing the basic design for most levels sold throughout the world today. Other inventions we take for granted, such as the fibre glass tape measure and the bonding in of the levelling vial inside the spirit level housing, were all created by Stabila. Embracing technology has enabled Stabila to expand upon its traditional product portfolio, by adding laser levels and digital measuring devices to its range.
